Textile Recycling
Sweden already has an infrastructure in place for collecting, sorting, and recycling textiles. Municipalities collect textile waste separately, and sorting facilities determine what can be reused, recycled, or used for energy recovery.
Since 2005, TMR has been working with collection and recycling under the producer responsibility system for packaging. We are now applying that experience to the textile sector.
Learn more about producer responsibility
Textiles follow a chain from producer to consumer and on to collection, sorting, and recycling. The sorting process determines what can be given a new life.
Textile facility
Collection and sorting are handled by our partner, Telge Återvinning. They operate Telge Textil, Sweden’s first large-scale pre-sorting facility for used clothing, with a capacity of up to 10,000 metric tons per year and partnerships with approximately 45 municipalities. The facility separates reusable garments for the secondhand market and prepares other textiles for material recycling.
